The preliminary investigation reveals that 52-year-old Eric Hall of Newberg was driving a gray 2003 Dodge Durango when, for unknown reasons, he crossed into the eastbound lanes, hitting a Freightliner tractor-trailer head-on.
Hall suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. The tractor-trailer was driven by 34-year-old David Ambriz Jacuinde of Woodburn. Jacuinde was not injured.
Officials say Highway 18 was closed for four hours during the investigation.
