A chase in Parsons leads to the arrest of a mother and son after a fight with officers. According to Parsons PD, officers were dispatched Thursday to the lobby of the police department because of a man yelling at the dispatcher on duty and beating his fists against the lobby window. Officers identified the suspect as 53-year-old Clinton Vance McGinnes of rural Parsons. McGinnes screamed racial slurs at officers before speeding off from the building in his vehicle, running stop signs and narrowly missing another vehicle. McGinnes drove over 100 mph as he fled from officers south on 16th street on the way to his home on 17000 road. McGinnes eventually barricaded himself in his home, forcing officers to kick the door open. Officers chased McGinnes through the house and eventually Tased and handcuffed him. While being apprehended, his mother 72-year-old Frances McGinnes grabbed a stick and started hitting the officers on the back of their heads. Officers restrained her and also took her into custody. Charges for Clinton include battery on a law enforcement officer, disorderly conduct, fleeing and attempting to elude, interference with law enforcement and several traffic offenses. The charges for Frances are aggravated battery on a law enforcement officer and interference with a law enforcement officer.

The Coffeyville city attorney is resigning. Paul Kritz confirmed to the Montgomery County Chronicle that he turned in his resignation this morning. Kritz has offered to continue his duties until a replacement can be found. According to the Chronicle, he did not indicate why he was resigning. Kritz will continue to serve as a senior partner with his local practice.

Coffeyville City Attorney Resigns

The City of Coffeyville has posted an opening for a fire chief. Almost two weeks after removing former Fire Chief Kenneth Ward from his duties the city has posted the opening for his position. This also comes a week after an overflow crowd attended the city commission meeting in support of Ward. Despite Ward asking for his job back and the overwhelming support from the community, it appears that Coffeyville is planning on going in a different direction.

Severe weather is possible for the four states today, mainly for central and northeast Oklahoma into northwest Arkansas and southwest Missouri. Southeast Kansas including Coffeyville will see a marginal risk of severe weather. Strong to severe thunderstorms will move into the area during the afternoon and evening hours and continue overnight. The main hazards include large hail, damaging wind gusts and flash flooding.

The Coffeyville Community College Red Ravens split their third consecutive home doubleheader, coming away with a 1-1 afternoon against Oklahoma Wesleyan University JV.
