A pit bull is now undergoing emergency surgery after allegedly being shot three times by an Orange County sheriff’s deputy in Monroe.
A representative for the owners tells News 12 the dog was shot twice in the face and once in the neck on Saturday. They say the dog needs emergency surgery to remove a portion of its jaw.
The 4-year-old dog, Emmalena, was outside of a residence on Oakwood Trail when the family representative says the deputy arrived to serve legal papers to someone who moved six years ago.
The say the deputy appears to have felt threatened by the dog when she ran up to him to play and was shot.
News 12 reached out to the sheriff’s office on Sunday and again on Monday for comment but haven’t heard back.
A GoFundMe page has been started to help the family pay for $16,000 in veterinary expenses to save the dog's life.
