PENINSULA, Ohio – The Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad will resume its regular schedule and events Feb. 3, the railroad announced this week.

The National Park Service closed sections of the track in October out of caution when erosion was discovered during a routine inspection, until potential safety risks could be better understood, according to Pamela Barnes, the park’s community engagement supervisor and public information officer. The scenic railroad modified the North Pole Adventure due to the closures.

“CVNP and CVSR have been working together to re-open for excursions as soon as safely possible,” Barnes said. “After evaluations with a geotechnical engineer, we determined that with daily monitoring the train can resume operations, and depending on conditions, operations may be modified.”

The erosion that prompted the track closures are separate from the riverbank stabilization work that is planned for eight locations within Summit and Cuyahoga Counties in the Cuyahoga Valley National Park. This work is being funded by a Great American Outdoors Act grant.

Upcoming events include:

  • The Cleveland Dinner and Event Train on Friday, Feb. 3
  • Ales on Rails on Feb. 10
  • The Grape Escape wine tasting excursion on Feb. 11

The scenic railroad’s excursions through the Cuyahoga Valley National Park will resume March 4. To see the railroad’s full schedule and purchase tickets, visit the Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad website.
