The Discover Coppell marketing campaign will receive more funding after the City Council approved an additional $224,000 for the initiative.

Discover Coppell is a joint initiative between the city and the Coppell Chamber of Commerce. The campaign launched in October and aims to bring awareness to Coppell’s attractions while also encouraging people to visit. The campaign’s website includes things to do, events, and places to eat, shop and stay.

The campaign’s original budget was $165,000 but has increased to $389,000, according to the Jan. 24 agenda item. The additional $224,000 was approved for the remainder of this fiscal year and is available through the city’s hotel tax fund.

The chamber of commerce, which oversees the campaign, requested additional funding for promotional tools, such as billboards and digital displays, agency services, and contractor management, which implements staff interaction with local corporations.

“Our goal as the chamber of commerce is to drive traffic into our hotels and our restaurants,” said Ellie Braxton, Coppell Chamber of Commerce president, during a Dec. 13 presentation. “We’re overseeing what the marketing firm is doing, but we’re also working on interacting with these businesses to make sure they know what’s available here in Coppell when they bring their conferences and special events here.”

The council approved using hotel occupancy tax to develop the marketing campaign last year. The chamber of commerce went on to hire Belmont Icehouse Marketing to develop and execute the campaign.

Future requests for Discover Coppell will be $336,000 annually, according to the chamber of commerce.
