Man nearly carjacked at gunpoint in North Hill in Akron

A man said he was nearly carjacked at gunpoint in Akron's North Hill neighborhood on Monday evening, according to the Akron Police Department.

The department said the man told police around 8:15 p.m. Monday that as he was dropping off a passenger in the 400 block of Cornell Street when two unknown men approached on foot, and one pulled a handgun and demanded he get out of the truck.

Police said the victim hit the gas and tried driving away. One of the suspects fired at least one round, which missed the victim but struck his driver’s door, according to the police.

The department said the men, who fled the scene on foot, are described as being around 20 to 30 years old. The man with the gun was around 6 feet tall, thin and wore dark clothing. The second man was about 5 feet 7 inches tall and wore a brown coat and red sweatpants.
