ANSONIA – Police recently charged two men in connection to the Dec. 11, 2022 burglary of Fuel First, a gas station at 575 Main St.

Erik Kycia, 36, of Ansonia, was charged Jan. 24 with third-degree burglary, third-degree conspiracy to commit burglary, first-degree criminal mischief, conspiracy to commit first-degree criminal mischief, sixth-degree larceny, and conspiracy to commit sixth-degree larceny.

Michael Barton, 40, of Ansonia, was charged Dec. 11 with conspiracy to commit third-degree burglary, conspiracy to commit first-degree criminal mischief, and conspiracy to commit sixth-degree larceny.

Both are due in court on Feb. 8.

According to police, the pair worked together to break into Fuel First by busting the glass to get in, then breaking into a gaming machine inside the store. Several hundred dollars in cash was stolen, police said.

Police said video from the crime showed one person breaking into the store while the second waited inside a dark-colored Chevrolet SUV.

The crime happened just before 5 a.m.

The pair entered the police department’s radar shortly after the crime, when Kycia called cops to lodge an unspecified complaint involving Barton. The officers who came to interview Kycia recognized him from the video from the burglary.

When the officers contacted Barton, they located the dark-colored Chevy seen in the video,” police said.
