IDALOU, TX – 22-year-old Hanna Hernandes of Floydada died on Monday morning east of Idalou on US 62/82 in a two-vehicle collision.

Hernandes graduated from Floydada High School in 2020.

A preliminary investigation revealed that a 2022 Freightliner Utility Van driven by Nicholas Erana Aquino of Richmond, Virginia, was traveling northbound on FM 400, approaching the intersection at US Highway 62, while a 2019 Nissan Versa driven by Hernandes was westbound on US 62, approaching the same intersection.

The van failed to yield right of way at the intersection and pulled out into the path of the Nissan Versa, causing both vehicles to collide in the intersection.

Hernandes was transported to University Medical Center (UMC) in Lubbock, where she died. Her daughter was also taken to UMC with unknown injuries. Aquino suffered no injuries. Both drivers wore seatbelts, and the child was secured in a car seat.
