Washington will keep its offensive coordinator in the 2023 football season after he got some serious interest from Alabama recently.

Ryan Grubb will stay on with the Huskies to call offensive plays this coming season after meeting with Crimson Tide head coach Nick Saban, according to multiple reports.

Alabama in the market: Former offensive coordinator Bill O'Brien departed Alabama this offseason by returning to the NFL and the New England Patriots.

That led Saban to meet with Grubb to discuss the vacancy, with the coaches meeting in Tuscaloosa along with other Alabama personnel.

Was a top target: Grubb was considered one of the premier targets for Saban to replace O'Brien as Alabama offensive coordinator this offseason.

Huskies thrived this past year: Washington led college football in passing yards and finished at No. 7 nationally in scoring offense over the 2022 season under Grubb's management of the unit.

What Grubb is getting paid: Late in December during bowl season, Washington gave its play caller a serious raise, up to $2 million, making him one of the highest paid assistants in college football.

That deal currently runs through the 2025 football season.

Where Washington is now: Grubb should be able to replicate the Huskies' success in 2023 after quarterback Michael Penix announced he will return to school this coming fall.

UW went 11-2 on the year thanks in large part to Penix's production. He led the nation in passing yards and total offense by a player.
