(Cass Co) The Cass County Board of Supervisors this morning approved withdrawing from the Workforce Development Chief Elected Official Consortium.
The Western Iowa Workforce Development area consists of 18 counties in western Iowa. According to their website, the Local Workforce Development Board is made up of leaders from business, labor, economic development, government, public assistance, education, youth and community-based organizations. This board works collaboratively with the Chief Local Elected Officials board comprised of one supervisor from each county. Together, they oversee the public workforce system in these counties.
Supervisor Wendy Richter explained why many are wanting to withdraw.
Richter said long story short, a lot of the counties got together and the consensus was to withdraw from the 28E Agreement. Supervisor Bernard Pettinger said the problem is that the way the agreement was written up, it’s not workable in this area.
After some discussion, the board approved a resolution to withdraw from the articles of agreement which formed the Workforce Development Chief Elected Officials Consortium for the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act of 2014.
In other activity, the Supervisors approved wage changes for Treasurer’s Office Deputies and Staff with Celeste Burroughs at 85 percent of the Treasurers Salary; Stacie Linfor and Bailee Smith will both go from $19 to $20 per hour following completion of the six month probationary period.
The Supervisors also approved appointing Michael Dreager as Grove Township Trustee.
