Surrounded by a crowd a fans, family and friends, the sibling trio stood accepting the honor, as youngest of the bros, Nick spoke. “I think we should make a quick announcement,” Nick said, waiting for the screams to die down before adding, “We are excited to announce today that our new album, The Album, will be coming out May 5. And we can’t wait to see you all on tour later this year.”

The Album will be the direct follow up to the band’s epic comeback album Happiness Begins, released in 2019. While on their prior project, Ryan Tedder steered the ship creatively. For The Album, the band has swapped captains, with artist-producer Jon Bellion taking command.

Ahead of the Hollywood Walk of Fame star dedication ceremony, the JoBros sat with Variety to discuss details of their forthcoming sixth album.

“The key to Jon’s initial pitch was bringing in influences from the 70s, but with a really modern edge,” the brothers shared with to Variety. “We wanted to find a way to tell stories that are universal but also ultra-personal.”

Leaning into the vibes of the 70s comes naturally for the band, particularly the sound of the Bee Gees, who have been “a huge influence in our lives, growing up and listening to them with our father,” according to Kevin. “And obviously, as we grew up being three brothers in a band, we definitely understood similarities.”

As for the lyrics, a reflection of maturity is present in their new songs, Joe hinted, “the direction of the lyrics, the stories we’re telling… It has changed a lot.” As this time around, all three are fathers, which has influenced their ever evolving approach to making music. “And there’s another important consideration,” Joe added, “I think about the fact that our kids will listen to this music.”

After the album arrives in May, the Jonas Brothers will begin prepping for an upcoming 2023 tour. Until then the band will return to Las Vegas for their third residency stretch.
