EDMOND, Okla. (WV News) — Helen June Collins was born in Rock Cave, WV on April 17, 1935, to Josephine and Earl Alkire.
Helen and Jarvis married in 1955 and were married for 67 years until Jarvis passed in September.
They have two sons, Gary and wife Terri of Houston, TX and Bill and wife Sandy of Edmond, OK.
Helen is preceded in death by her sister Betty Paul and by her brother Denzil (Chub) Alkire.
Helen taught piano and began her career as a telephone operator. She lived her early years in WV and then moved to Pittsburgh, PA in 1971.
She had a large network of family and close friends in the Ohio, WV and western PA area.
Helen and Jarvis wintered in Ft. Myers and Cape Coral FL for many years before moving to Edmond in 2017 to be near family.
Helen was a trophy-winning golfer and bowler and enjoyed playing the piano, playing bridge and painting.
She traveled around the world on one trip after visiting Gary in Dubai. She and Jarvis traveled to many countries and all 50 states.
Helen has three grandchildren, Michael and wife Katie Collins, Carrie and husband Jeremy Roberts, and Sophie Collins. She also has five great granddaughters who all live in Edmond, Morgandi, Corinne (same birthday), Nora, Darci and Penny. Helen’s smile will be missed by all who knew her.
