De Yampert joins Superior Health Foundation’s board of directors

Dr. Fredi de Yampert will represent Houghton, Keweenaw and Baraga Counties on the Superior Health Foundation’s board of directors. De Yampert currently serves as VP of Academic Affairs and dean of the College of Health Sciences at Finlandia University.

“I look forward to being part of the great work of the Foundation. Being that the UP is rather remote, our healthcare needs are specific to our region,” de Yampert said. “As a nurse, I strongly believe access to adequate, quality healthcare is vital to maintaining a healthy community. The work of the SHF provides an avenue for the community to identify and address these needs and bring programming to the people.”

Before joining Suomi College as a nursing instructor in 1996, de Yampert attained her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Texas El Paso. While serving as chair of the nursing department, de Yampert played an important role in Suomi College’s transition to Finlandia University. De Yampert then went on to earn her Master of Science in Nursing Education from Saint Joseph’s College in Maine and her Ph.D. in Leadership for Higher Education from Capella University. She now oversees academic affairs for all of Finlandia, including the College of Health Sciences, Suomi College of Arts & Sciences, International School of Business and International School of Art & Design.

De Yampert has facilitated the creation of many scholarships, grants and programs Finlandia now offers. Her work with the Harry A. and Margaret D. Towsley Foundation since 1998 has provided instrumental funding toward technology and equipment, most recently in the form of a $220,000 grant to Finlandia’s College of Health Sciences. Thanks to the grant from the Towsley Foundation in 2018, Finlandia’s College of Health Sciences was able to purchase the latest HAL S3000 simulation mannequin for students to practice on, in addition to a Pyxis medication system trainer.
