Wilkes-Barre City Police are investigating a late-night shooting that killed one man Monday night.
Officers received a call around 11:53 PM for a report of shots fired near Coal Street and Logan Court. A second call came in shortly after to report that a male victim was injured on North Meade Street.
Police at the scene say the victim, now identified as 22-year-old Elijah RIvers, was transported to a local hospital for treatment, but he eventually died from his injuries.
The Luzerne County Coroner's Office announced Wednesday that Rivers' cause of death was determined to be a gunshot wound to the chest. His manner of death is homicide.
The scene was secured and processed by the Pennsylvania State Police FSU Unit Wilkes-Barre Barracks and the Wilkes-Barre Detective Division.
The initial investigation revealed that this incident stems from an ongoing dispute between Rivers and another group of subjects.
