(670 The Score) Former Cubs center fielder Dexter Fowler, best known for being the catalyst of the team that won the 2016 World Series title, announced his retirement from baseball Tuesday morning.
Fowler, 36, had a 14-year MLB career. He played for the Rockies (2008-'13), the Astros (2014), the Cubs (2015-'16), the Cardinals (2017-'20) and the Angels (2021).
"I'm mostly proud to look back at my career knowing that I played the game the right way and did my best to make a positive impact beyond the win," Fowler said in his retirement announcement posted on social media.
Fowler led off Game 7 of the 2016 World Series with a home run, a game the Cubs eventually won 8-7 win in 10 innings in Cleveland to earn the team's first World Series championship since 1908.
An All-Star with the Cubs in 2016, Fowler posted a slash line of 261./367./.427 (.794 OPS) over 281 games for Chicago.
