A vigil took place Monday night, put on by the Monroe County Chapter of the NAACP in memory of Tyre Nichols-- who was brutally beaten by Memphis police officers-- and whose death sparked nationwide protests Friday night after a bodycam video of the beating was released.
That vigil was met with a peaceful gathering of commonwealth citizens and local law enforcement to mourn Nichols' death as well as honor his memory.
People gathered in Stroudsburg and reflected and prayed on the issue of Nichols' death.
As people mourned, the NAACP calls out to Pennsylvania legislators to make changes in the law that'll crack down on police officers who abuse their power so that fewer people are affected.
The Monroe County NAACP is asking for help from all citizens as they start their upcoming special legislative campaign for change.
Another Memphis police officer was disciplined. That brings the total to 7 now.
The department did not identify the latest officer but said they had been relieved of their duty.
Earlier today, a sixth officer was suspended in connection to the arrest and death of Tyre Nichols.
The other five officers involved were fired on January 20th after they violated department policy on the use of force.
And now face second-degree murder charges.
The county DA says they're not stopping there.
