PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- A Philadelphia high school student was injured during a drive-by shooting while walking to school in the city's Overbrook section on Tuesday morning.

Police say the 15-year-old freshman, who was walking with a friend, was shot at 61st and Jefferson streets around 8:30 a.m. prompting a lockdown at nearby Overbook High School.

The teen was taken by police to the hospital with a gunshot wound to his right leg, groin, and arm.

He was placed in stable condition.

Action News spoke to his father, who is now concerned for their safety and did not want to be identified.

He woke up to his son running into the house, screaming.

"I heard my wife crying and she heard my son," he said. "I came downstairs to my son bleeding."

In November, the day before Thanksgiving, four Overbrook High School students were shot at school dismissal.

It's why the latest victim was kept home, to study online, until last week.

"I kept my son home. I kept him home for two months until everything died down," said the victim's father.

According to the school district, 91 students have been shot and 13 were murdered this school year.

Overbrook High is designated a school safety-zone but police presence is only requested for after school.

"We're working on a safe path program, where individuals from the community are hired to walk students to and from school. The fact that you have to do that is egregious," said Philadelphia School District Spokesperson Monique Braxton.

Police say no weapons were recovered and no arrests were made. It is not yet known whether the students were targeted.
