Paris, Tenn.–Paris City Hall, landfill and animal shelter are closed today and law enforcement is urging extreme caution for anyone walking or driving. Power lines down due to ice have caused traffic lights and power to be out in the downtown area.

Icy conditions have caused trees and powerlines down in the College Street and Depot area which has caused power outages to Downtown Paris. City Manager Kim Foster said, “Please avoid the Downtown area if at all possible to allow for restoration in this area. If you must travel, use extreme caution. Traffic lights are out at the intersections of Dunlap/Veterans, Market/Wood, Market/Washington, Wood/Irvine, and the flashing light at Wood/Porter. Please treat these as four way stops.”

Foster said, “I’ve talked to the Police Dept as well as Public Works…Public Works is working hard to get the streets passable but it’s getting more slick as the day breaks and temps drop. Also, the sidewalks are VERY slick. Because of the current conditions combined with additional precipitation expected all day with temps remaining below freezing” the decision was made that all city facilities will be closed today.
