The Rejected AP African American Course & The Murder of Tyre Nichols

The Relationship between the Rejected AP African American Studies Course & The Murder of Tyre Nichols – Top 3 Takeaways – January 31st, 2023

  1. Nailed it. Over the past two weeks I’ve extensively covered the woke agenda which was implicit within the originally proposed AP African American Studies course which was rejected by Governor DeSantis and the Florida Board of Education. Here’s a quick refresh from a couple of the highlights of the original course material... Topic 4.19 in the AP African American Studies Course is entitled: Black Queer Studies. And what does the curriculum includeBuilding forms of queerness that reject the given realities of the government and the market. Another section in the course was called Black Feminist Literary Thought with required reading that states our society is a “White Supremacist capitalist patriarchy”. There’s the section in support for the BLM movement and instructions on how to pursue reparations. The course as originally designed was so overt, that it made Critical Race Theory, as in the actual published work which started that movement – look downright tame by comparison. Now of course, Governor DeSantis’ refusal to play along with the woke agenda prompted The College Board, who perpetuated it in the first place, to do an about face on the course material, as they’ve now agreed to overhaul what they intend to include in it. But it’s also accomplished something else. It’s now exposed who was behind this radically woke race-baited agenda fashioned as an AP course. The lead creator of the original course was Northwestern University’s African American Studies professor, Keeanga-Yamahtta Taylor. Who is this professor? Courtesy of National Review, a BLM supporting, overt socialist who is especially fond of Marx and Lenin. Oh, and what is one of the most recent tweets from said professor... In response to the recent Memphis police murder of Tyre Nichols, there is literally nothing left to write about police abuse and violence. Abolish the police. Ok, right, so any questions...? But go on and continue to tell us about how a course designed by an overt BLM Marxist who is clear about their desire to abolish the police is really on the up and up and Ron DeSantis is a bad racist man. Oh, and about that Memphis police murder situation which brought about that most recent tweet...
  2. Lower standards worse results for Memphis police. See it turns out that there’s a direct connection between my first takeaway today and the second. With the advent of the BLM-led Defund Police movement in 2020, majority Black Memphis has had serious police recruiting issues. The police force hemorrhaged officers with the department having a deficit of 500. The result, greatly loosened requirements to become a police officer. Among the changes by Memphis PD, dropping the need for an associate’s degree or 54 college credit hours, timed physical ability tests and here’s a biggie...they dropped a ban on hiring convicted felons. Now, there’s a time and a place for second chances. How many people think a career in law enforcement is the appropriate place for former felons to find them? And if that doesn’t spell out the extent to which the Memphis Police Department was desperate, nothing else will. Now, two of the five officers charged with the murder of Tyre Nichols were specifically hired due to and after those hiring standards were lowered, which begs the question. If not for the Defund Police Movement would Tyre Nichols be alive today? But once again...
  3. This is what radicals do. It’s another page straight out of Rules for Radicals. Creating unrest and then capitalizing on it by never letting a crisis go to waste. I’ve long said one of my biggest concerns in our society is what happens when good people no longer want to remain in or enter law enforcement. It was a foundational principal for creating the weekly Protecting the Palm Beaches series in 2016 after the ambush murder of several Dallas Police officers, by none other than a Black Lives Matter activist (a key detail which was largely ignored at the time as the movement was young). The BLM movement has aided in creating a crisis within numerous law enforcement departments and now they’re seeking to use the predictable issues arising from what they’ve created to finish what they stated with the desire for police abolition and true anarchy. And again remember, it’s one of these figures, who is prominent in the collegiate world, who designed the AP course called out by Florida. It’s all related. And yes, we are starting to see the impact of what happens when not enough good people want to be in law enforcement. This story doesn’t end well for any of us unless we reverse course entirely. The irony of the Tyre Nichols murder case is that it’s a cautionary tale of what happens when the BLM-led “defund” movement has success. Lower standards and worse results. It’s also why it’s imperative we’re as supportive as ever of our local law enforcement professionals lest we find ourselves in a place like Memphis has.
