Per Takoma Park Police: On March 28 at approximately 4:35 pm, Takoma Park Police responded to the 7400 block of New Hampshire Avenue (Red Carpet Inn) for a welfare check on a female. Officers arrived and were directed to a specific room where they found a victim suffering from injuries. The victim, an employee of the establishment, was conducting house cleaning in a room when she was approached by an unknown male in the doorway of the room. The male suspect entered the room, struck the victim in the head and put his hand forcefully over her mouth. The male suspect attempted to rape the victim, without success. The victim was able to free her mouth long enough to scream so someone would hear her. The suspect fled on foot towards New Hampshire Avenue. Prior to police arrival, a witness approached the room to check on the welfare of the victim at which time the suspect was making his way back to the room. The victim barricaded herself in another room and the witness was able to flee and reach the management office to alert police.

At approximately 6:34 pm, the Montgomery County Police Department responded to the 2700 block of Spartan Road for the report of a shooting that had just occurred. The preliminarily investigation has revealed that the shooting stemmed from an altercation that occurred in the parking lot of Brooke Grove Elementary School. Per MCPD: Detectives from the Montgomery County Department of Police – Special Victims Investigations Division (SVID) are asking for the public’s assistance in locating a missing 8-year-old from Gaithersburg. Miriam Garcia was last seen on Saturday, March 25, 2023, at approximately 6:15 p.m., outside of her residence on Marshall St. in Gaithersburg. Miriam is 3-feet, 6-inches tall and weighs approximately 115 pounds. She has brown hair and brown eyes. She was last seen wearing a white jacket and black/white tie dye pants.

Permanent signage is up at the upcoming Oak Barrel and Vine store at 512 N. Frederick Ave. in the Gaithersburg Square shopping center, next to Lil’ Cakes & Creamery and Ross. The county-run beer, wine, and liquor store will feature a tasting room with beers on tap and space to hold events hosted by local breweries and distillers. According to ABS, there have been some delays and the new store is still several months away from opening.

Update on Oak Barrel and Vine in Gaithersburg

After nine years, Quincy’s South at 11401 Woodglen Dr in Rockville will be closing this Friday, March 31. The current location is scheduled to be redeveloped into an apartment complex with a retail pad and the restaurant is actively looking for a new location. Drew Gardner, who was recently in the running for Maryland bartender of the year, will be the new General Manager and managing partner when the restaurant reopens. After 3/31, Gardner will be at Quincy’s Potomac (1093 Seven Locks Rd) until a new location is found for Quincy’s South.

Permanent signage is now up at TaKorean, a Korean taco grill that is taking over the recently-closed Nalley Fresh location at 261 Kentlands Blvd in Gaithersburg. The restaurant offers Korean style tacos and bowls. This will be TaKoreans first location outside of D.C and the company is aiming for an early May opening.

Coming soon signage is up at the upcoming Pho Nom Nom at 18509 N Frederick Ave at Gaithersburg S.C. (that’s the name of the shopping center), at the former site of Pho Viet Saigon. Pho Nom Nom has an additional location at 842 Rockville Pike. A representative from the Rockville location tells us the new store is still a few months away from opening. Pho Nom Nom specializes in authentic Vietnamese cuisine, including pho, banh mi, noodles and grilled dishes.
