BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WBRC) - THE NEXT 24 HOURS: We’re tracking another large shield of rain tonight and this will continue to impact the area through the early morning hours. In addition, colder air is on the move, with temperatures falling into the 40s. We are seeing upper 30s in areas to the far northwest, but I still expect the icy weather to remain north of our area. The rain will gradually thin out in coverage after sunrise on Wednesday. We will have some breaks during the day, but it’s going to remain very damp, cold, and dreary. We will also continue to experience foggy weather in the higher elevations due to low clouds. While the rain will decrease in coverage, a few spotty showers, patchy mist and/or drizzle will still be possible, especially north and west.

MORE RAIN WEDNESDAY NIGHT/THURSDAY: The rain will start to increase again Wednesday night, with a steady rain setting up throughout the day on Thursday. It’s possible we could hear some thunder, but no severe weather is expected. We could see another two inches of rain in some areas Thursday and after all of the recent wet weather, flooding issue could materialize along some of the local waterways.

THE WEEKEND: The good news is the rain will taper off from northwest to southeast early on Friday and then we will begin a stretch of drier days. We will have clearing by the weekend, with sunshine returning Saturday. Temperatures will remain seasonal throughout the weekend, with highs in the 50s and lows in the mid to upper 30s. The dry weather will continue through early next week. Be sure to check in with Matt and Mickey for updates on Good Day Alabama!
