The Little Hawkeye Conference basketball slate resumes tonight as Norwalk travels to Dallas Center-Grimes for a girl-boy doubleheader starting at 6:15 p.m. Both games can be heard live on kniakrls.com (KNIA3), with pregame coverage beginning at 6:00.

DC-G swept the first meeting on January 3 in Norwalk, winning the girls game 63-37 and taking the boys game 57-46. The boys teams have taken different paths since that night, with Norwalk winning eight consecutive games and the Mustangs losing five of their last eight.

The Warriors’ impressive winning streak has catapulted them into the Iowa High School Athletic Association’s Class 4A rankings for the first time at number 9. They handed 4A fifth-ranked Indianola its first conference loss on Friday night, 59-49, then hit the road Saturday and snapped Ames’ nine-game winning streak with a 53-49 victory.

Coach Aaron Pelzer’s squad is now 12-3 overall and 7-3 in the Little Hawkeye Conference, tied with Newton for second place behind 9-1 Indianola. Dallas Center-Grimes stands 9-6 overall and 4-4 in conference play.

The Norwalk girls, with an active roster now consisting entirely of sophomores and freshmen, will have a tall task tonight against the Class 4A top-ranked Fillies. DC-G is 14-3 overall and 10-0 in the Little Hawkeye. The Warriors, who snapped a five-game skid on Saturday with a 45-30 win at Ames, are currently 4-13 overall and 2-8 in the LHC.
