The PCM basketball teams welcome West Marshall to Monroe this evening for a Heart of Iowa Conference doubleheader.

In the girls game, the Mustangs are looking for a much better showing against Class 3A’s #4 ranked Trojans following a 69-25 loss in State Center on December 16th. PCM struggled offensively in the prior matchup, connecting on just 19% of their shots and scoring double digits in just one quarter in the game. Mustangs head coach Sami Allison-Rodriguez knows her team struggled the first time around but is excited for a chance at redemption tonight.

“We did not play well at West Marshall. They shot the lights out and we played just to be really honest, just the worst game that we did all season. We just couldn’t do anything. And so, we joked with the girls that we’re in a shock and when they come here and show them what we can really do, that we were just kind of trying to play games with them. But hopefully we have a better showing here at home. If we keep shooting like we did tonight, we’ll be in good shape. We’ll defend them better than we did up there.”

Meanwhile, the PCM boys are looking to duplicate their result from the meeting in December. The Mustangs picked up one of their four conference wins of the season in State Center, with a 40-35 victory over West Marshall. While PCM won the first game between the two schools, the Trojans have been playing some of the best basketball of late. West Marshall has won four of their last five games, and Mustangs head coach Fred Lorenson knows his team will be tested this evening.

“They’re really good. They’re on kind of a roll right now. They’ve won quite a few games. They just beat Nevada, so they’re on a roll right now. They feel good about themselves, and it’ll be a real tough task for us to get them when they come in here.”

PCM’s basketball doubleheader tonight can be heard live on the KRLS3 stream at KNIAKRLS.com, beginning with pregame coverage at 5:30 p.m.
