A Fulton County man has been charged with assault after a physical altercation with his girlfriend.

According to the probable cause affidavit, the Fulton County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched to a residence for a domestic disturbance.

Upon arrival the victim told officers she took her boyfriend, identified as 35-year-old Shane Sweigart, to get a pack of cigarettes while on a break from work. She stated they got into an argument and he started calling her “worthless” and pushed her down. She said he pushed her down and began to kick her legs and punch her in the stomach several times. In addition, she stated he grabbed her around the throat, making it hard for her to breathe.

The victim alleged Sweigart had become very violent in the days leading, hitting her several times, including an incident where he knocked out a tooth.

While officers were interviewing the victim, a witness approached and stated he showed up in the middle of the fight and witnessed Sweigart kicking and hitting the victim. He stated in fear of her safety, he chased Sweigart out of the house where he drove off in a dark SUV.

Sweigart is charged with felony counts of violating a protection order and aggravated assault. He was released from the Fulton County Detention Center on $10,000 bond.
