The full-size Ford F-150 is the top-selling pickup truck in America — and it’s easy to see why with its high-level utility, durability, off-road prowess, beefy engine options, and towing capabilities. However, the Maverick has upstaged the F-150 over the past year, as the compact truck has been a tremendous success. Also, the 2023 Ford Maverick is better than the 2023 Ford F-150 in one big way: higher fuel economy.

One of the most significant costs of vehicle ownership is gasoline. This is especially the case for pickup trucks, which tend to be gas guzzlers. However, the 2023 Ford Maverick is a rare exception, particularly for its standard hybrid powertrain. The Maverick Hybrid, which combines a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine and an electric motor, gets a gas-sipping estimated fuel economy of up to 37 combined mpg. With such high fuel economy, Maverick Hybrid owners save a great deal of money at the pump over the long haul.

In comparison, the 2023 Ford F-150 gets an estimated gas mileage of up to 25 combined mpg. That’s 12 mpg less than the Maverick Hybrid. Also, even if you buy the fully gas-powered variant of the Maverick with the turbocharged engine, you’ll still benefit from slightly higher fuel economy (26 combined mpg).

Plus, another advantage of the better gas mileage for the Maverick is convenience. With lower fuel consumption, the Maverick requires fewer stops at gas stations compared to the F-150.

2023 Maverick is also considerably cheaper than the 2023 F-150

In addition to saving money on fuel with the 2023 Ford Maverick, the small pickup truck is considerably cheaper than the 2023 Ford F-150. In times of high inflation and record-high vehicle prices, the Maverick is an affordable option. It has a starting price of only $22,195 MSRP.

In comparison, the 2023 Ford F-150 starts at $34,585, which is $12,390 MSRP more than the Maverick. Furthermore, not only is the Maverick much cheaper than the F-150, but it’s also the most affordable new pickup truck available. With its high fuel economy and low price, the Maverick is a budget-friendly choice for pickup truck shoppers.

Other advantages of the Ford Maverick over the F-150

The 2023 Maverick has a couple of other advantages over the 2023 F-150. This includes maneuverability. With its tighter turning circle, the compact pickup truck can more fluidly weave through traffic, park, back up, and navigate curves and corners.

Also, the Maverick has a versatile pickup bed. This is due to its ingenious FLEXBED, which can accommodate many accessories — and offers features for organizing and securing cargo. Additionally, the FLEXBED provides versatile configurations for DIY solutions, segmented storage, and racks for outdoor gear. Plus, there are QR codes around the Maverick. Owners can scan these QR codes with their smartphone to get ideas for DIY projects, along with instructions and parts lists.

However, the biggest way that the 2023 Ford Maverick is better than the 2023 Ford F-150 is its high fuel economy. When deciding between the two pickup trucks, the high gas mileage is a key factor to keep in mind.
