Some shops see a drop in business while others stay steady during "Dropicana" when the Nevada Department of Transportation closed the Tropicana bridge for more than a week and I-15 for three days.
Jacob Jacobi, owner of Jacobi's Men's Fashion, said it was dead for a few days inside his store that is less than a half mile from the construction zone.
"Three days in a row, it was a morgue," Jacobi said. "It was really I'm like, 'Are you kidding me?' Really this thing's happening now. So I was like, wow, and then boom, everything else back to normal. So, I don't know. We'll see."
Some other nearby shops in the strip mall on Valley View and Tropicana did not see a difference with the construction, according to employees or owners.
However, Jacobi said it's too early to tell what the overall impact of the $305 million project will be for now.
"We'll see what happens," Jacobi said. "You know, that's just the best I can say."
The overhaul of the I-15/Tropicana Avenue interchange is referred to as "Dropicana."
The Nevada Department of Transportation said the Tropicana bridge over the freeway will be rebuilt taller, wider, and longer, with additional enhancements for capacity and safety.
The southbound I-15 offramps at Tropicana will remain closed for several months.
