(WBBM NEWSRADIO) – Rocks thrown at Holy Trinity Orthodox Cathedral in Ukrainian Village have damaged some of the stained glass windows at the Louis Sullivan-designed church.

Father Alexander Koranda discovered the damage late last week and was able to salvage some of the fragments.

“The stained-glass windows themselves were in some ways quite simple in their design, in their kind of amber look,” he said.

Any restoration of such historic significance can be expensive. That’s if the repair can be done at all, Koranda said.

Built in 1903, the cathedral is an official Chicago landmark and is on the National Register of Historic places. Thousands of students and tourists visit the temple each year.

Anyone who is interested in helping the church is asked to visit its website, and click on "Donate."
