'Argument Turned Deadly': Stepfather Arrested In Connection To Deadly Shooting

A fight between family members over the weekend led to a deadly shooting at a Southwest Oklahoma City home. Miguel Hernandez- Garcia was arrested on a first-degree murder complaint for shooting his 20-year-old stepson Carlos Quijano.

Sgt. Dillon Quirk with Oklahoma City Police says officers were called to a home in the 800 block of SW 25th street early Sunday morning on a disturbance call.

“Officers learned that there was some type of argument between family members when gunfire rang out," Sgt. Quirk said. “The argument was between a stepfather and stepson. At some point during that argument the stepfather produced a handgun and shot the stepson before fleeing on foot.”

Sgt. Quirk says the suspect, Miguel Hernandez- Garcia, didn't make it very far before police found him. He was arrested and booked into the Oklahoma County Detention Center on a first-degree murder complaint.

The shooting sparked some fear for neighbors like the Salazars.

“[I’m] kind of nervous because I have my family, my kids, I have small kids," Jose Salazar said.

Jose Salazar has lived right across the street from the scene for over 20 years with his family. His home is just a couple doors down from Mount St. Mary High School. Salazar says he's always felt like it was a safe area for him and his family, until recently.

“Couple months I see too many issues on this street," said Salazar.

He says ever since the family moved into the home across the street, cops have been called out multiple times, and the night of the shooting the street was flooded with police vehicles.

“I was trying to sleep. It was like 12:30 in the morning, we hear like 4 gunshots," said Salazar.

“I told my family, just stay inside for a little while because we don't know what happened exactly.”

He says after learning what did happen that night, he is more cautious to keep his family safe.
