Two Green Hill escapees, both 17, admitted to sheriff’s officers they committed a string of thefts before being apprehended, The Chronicle reported on Monday, March 25, 1963. The two escapees fled Green Hill on Sunday, March 17, and had been on the run for a week before they were captured, living in vacant houses and in the woods. They were caught near Kosmos on the afternoon of Saturday, March 23 while walking along the highway.

The Chehalis School Board will allocate up to $300,000 to overhaul the drainage system at Bearcat Stadium, the board decided Tuesday. The Napavine track and field team went north to Eatonville on Thursday, taking second out of five schools in the girls meet and third out of four on the boys’ side. The Tigers cleaned up in the girls jumps, with Keira O’Neill winning the high jump (4 feet, 10 inches) and the triple jump (29 feet) and Morgan Hamilton taking first in the long jump (15 feet, 10.5 inches). Hamilton also won the 400 in 1:07.35, was second in the 100-meter dash in 14.49, and third in the 200-meter dash in 29.90.
