Kevin Durant Wants Breanna Stewart to Sign With WNBA’s Liberty

Breanna Stewart’s free agency is the biggest story in the WNBA right now as free agents can officially sign elsewhere on Wednesday. She has reportedly narrowed her choices down to either staying with the Storm or joining the Liberty, and one prominent NBA player is trying to sway her.

Nets forward Kevin Durant revealed that he has been texting Stewart trying to get her to sign with New York.

“I hit Stewie the other day, and I never do this, and was like, ‘Yo, it would be an incredible dynasty in New York City if you came here,’” Durant said. “I don’t she’s seen it yet.”

Nets owner Joe Tsai owns the Liberty, and the team plays in the Barclays Center, which would give Durant and Stewart more in common than simply playing basketball in New York City. Stewart, who is from upstate New York, played college basketball at UConn and already has two WNBA titles with the Storm along with four consecutive NCAA titles with the Huskies.

The Liberty have been busy already; the team acquired former MVP Jonquel Jones via trade to join Sabrina Ionescu in New York. Potentially signing Stewart would give the Liberty a formidable big three necessary to match up with a stacked Aces team out West.

Durant is excited about the team that the Liberty are assembling.

“They cooking man, they doing their thing,” he said. “They bringing the best talent to New York. If they win a chip here, Barclays is gonna be jumping.
