Lady Hounds piling up wins

FM girls dominate Deery-less Nikes

BURLINGTON – Camille Kruse poured in 21 points and Molly Knipe added 10 as the seniors led Fort Madison to a 55-38 win over Burlington Notre Dame in an early Saturday matchup.

Notre Dame jumped out to a quick 11-8 at the end of the first quarter, but Fort Madison pulled away with a 14-10 run to take a one-point 22-21 lead at the half behind Kruse’s 14 in the half.

The Hounds got some very balanced third quarter scoring with five different girls scoring, and pulled ahead by 10 at the end of the third.

The Hounds' defense then went to work holding the Nikes to just 10 points in the fourth quarter as they pulled away steadily for the win.

Taylor Johnson had eight points in the win.

Notre Dame, which was ranked 11th in Class 1A last week, was playing without post player Abby Deery.

The junior varsity squad also won 55-41.

Fort Madison has won three straight and seven of its last 10 with three regular season games remaining, starting with Washington Friday.

Last Friday, Aija Jenkins poured in 22 points as the Lady Hounds dismantled Fairfield 60-21.

Fort Madison held the Lady Trojans to just eight first half points, while pulling away for a 32-8 lead at the break. The Bloodhounds then ripped off a 28-13 advantage in the second half for the win.

Dayonna Davis and Halle Menke each had six in the win. Johnson had 10 rebounds. Kruse had seven and 10 assists in the win. Dayonna Davis also had seven steals for Fort Madison.

Kruse, who leads the Southeast Conference with 342 points, had 19 in the win. She needs 58 points over the final three games to reach 400 on the year.
