Jacksonville FL — On Monday, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis proposed a new initiative that if approved by the state legislature would expedite certain road construction projects in the state over the next four years. The Moving Florida Forward initiative calls for a total of $7 billion to speed up construction on 20 different projects around the state.
“This proposal will break through bureaucracy that often slows down infrastructure projects and allow FDOT to target projects that will ease congestion across the state,” said Governor Ron DeSantis. “Expediting these projects will bring them to completion more than a decade ahead of schedule.”
None of the 20 projects are in the Northeast Florida area, but the governor says the projects included would build more resilient transportation infrastructure to help get people around the state in times of severe weather like hurricanes and when people visit the state.

The governor says the proposal would invest $4 billion of general revenue, redirect $131 million annually to the State Transportation Work Program, and additional funding would be added over the next four years to help reach this initiative’s $7 billion total.
