Heartland colleges, universities cancel Monday night classes, close Tuesday

(KFVS) - Some Heartland colleges and universities canceled classes Monday night, January 30 due to weather.

We issued a First Alert Action Day for overnight Monday into Tuesday due to slick travel conditions from another round of sleet and ice.

Southeast Missouri State University

Southeast Missouri State University said its campuses will close at 3:30 p.m. due to inclement weather. They will also be closed on Tuesday, classes are canceled and offices are closed.

John A. Logan College

Classes at JALC are canceled on Tuesday, January 31. They say operations are suspended at all facilities, including Logan Fitness, on Tuesday. It will be a remote learning day.

SIUC

Southern Illinois University canceled its in-person and online classes starting at 4 p.m. or later on Monday. Classes were also canceled for Tuesday. They will not be delivered remotely.

According to SIUC, residence halls and the Department of Public Safety will remain open. Residential dining and the Rec Center will operate between 11 a.m. and 8 p.m. All other campus buildings and offices will be closed.

At this time, the university is scheduled to reopen at 6 a.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 1.

Southeastern Illinois College

SIC will be closed Tuesday, Jan. 31. All events and activities are also canceled.

Murray State University

Murray State says the main campus and all regional campuses closed at 5 p.m. on Monday and will remain closed on Tuesday.

Due to extremely low temperatures, Racer Arena will open as a warming center starting at 5 p.m. on Monday through 10 a.m. on Tuesday.

UT Martin

UT Martin classes at the main campus in Martin and five regional centers in Jackson, Parsons, Ripley, Selmer and Somerville are canceled Tuesday, Jan. 31.

Staff will telework, and essential personnel will report as directed by supervisors.
