A little early adversity never hurt anyone, especially when a team finds ways to rebound.

After beginning its season with a 3-5 record, Brush boys basketball righted the ship a couple weeks back with a 67-54 win at Weld Central, only to see that one victory give way to three more. Three days later, Frontier Academy suffered a worse fate when the Beetdiggers rolled to a 77-41 win.

Last week, the Diggers collected a couple more victories, both in thrilling fashion, when Timnath came to town and Strasburg hosted. On Wednesday, the Timnath contest came all the way down to the wire when Brush’ valiant comeback pushed it over the edge toward a 51-49 victory.

The Cubs spent the first three quarters holding the momentum in their pockets, and entered the third frame with a comfortable 37-30 lead. The Diggers, not content with a losing effort, stormed back in the fourth to outscore their opponent 21-12 to just barely pull off the stunner.

Senior Kaden Castrup led the pack with 19 points and senior Danny Saucedo crashed the glass best for 10 rebounds. Their next matchup on the very next day proved just as exciting but, this time around, the Diggers had to stave off a Strasburg comeback before pulling off the 60-56 win.

Strasburg began the contest with a slight advantage, ending the first quarter up 11-7, but a strong 22 points from the Diggers and a mere five from Strasburg in the second swung the momentum solidly in their favor.

Down 29-16 after halftime, with their backs firmly against the wall, Strasburg began to fight back. It scored 23 points to Brush’s 12 in the third frame, inching ever closer to taking over that lead, but the Diggers held them off in the waning minutes.

On Saturday, the Diggers ended their four-game victory ride when they crossed state lines to visit Sidney and came back home with a 66-45 loss.
