VAN BUREN TWP. (WWJ) -- One man is hospitalized and another is behind bars after a shooting Monday morning in Wayne County's Van Buren Township.

The shooting happened just before 7 a.m., according to Van Buren Police, near the corner of Rawsonville Road and Grove Street.

Police said a 35-year-old man from Monroe County fired several shots into a car, hitting the driver multiple times.

The driver, identified as a 31-year-old Van Buren Township man, was taken to a local hospital where he was listed in stable condition.

The shooter was taken into custody a short time later at his home, police said. He remained jailed later Monday, awaiting charges by the Wayne County Prosecutor's Office.

Police said this was not a random shooting, and there is no threat to the public. Police did not say why the victim may have been targeted by the shooter, but noted that he was "familiar with this suspect."

As the investigation continues, anyone who witnessed the shooting is asked to call the Van Buren Police Department at 734-699-8930.
