Missouri Botanical Garden To Host New Dale Chihuly Glass Sculptures [PHOTOS]
One of the most popular artists in Missouri Botanical Garden history is returning, this time with his most ambitious exhibit to date, according to the garden.
From May 2 to October 15, the world-famous glass blower Dale Chihuly will “plant” his work, once again, in the Missouri Botanical Garden. The exhibition, Chihuly in the Garden 2023, will feature 18 large-scale installations, specifically selected for MoBot.
The garden will also host Chihuly Nights, which will provide visitors the opportunity to enjoy illuminated sculptures, live music, entertainment, food and drinks. Tickets for Chihuly Nights go on sale March 1 for members and March 15 for non-members.
It’s not the first time Chihuly has stopped by St. Louis. He began working with the garden in 2001 and had his first large-scale exhibit there in 2006. According to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, thousands of new members visited the garden to see his work, topping over 1 million visitors for the year and increasing gift shop, rental, ticket and restaurant sales by 30 percent.
Chihuly, who has made blown glass artwork for decades, is seen as a pioneer in the field.
“Dale Chihuly is one of the most important artists of the 21st century who has transformed glass into a multidimensional art form,” says Stephanie Stebich, director of the Smithsonian American Art Museum in a statement.
But you don’t have to wait until May 2. We compiled a slideshow of photos for you to prepare for the exhibition.
