Man accused of shooting through bedroom window, injuring woman in Baton Rouge

BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) – A man and woman in Baton Rouge were shot at while lying in their bed on Saturday, according to deputies.

The Jan. 28 shooting took place at a location in the 1900 block of Mariner Drive and left a woman with gunshot wounds, according to an affidavit.

Lionel Harris, 30, of Denham Springs, was taken into custody after his white Lexus was found on Southpointe Drive. Harris is accused of shooting into the residence where the man and woman were lying down.

Deputies found “multiple” bullet holes in the bedroom window of the residence. “Several spent shell casings” were found outside of the same window, according to the affidavit. Further investigation found that walls inside the residence were hit along with a television.

The man who was in the home at the time of the shooting identified Harris as the suspect and reportedly claimed that he saw Harris leave the scene with a handgun in the same vehicle he was later found in.

The sheriff’s office said investigators were able to view video that shows the Lexus coming and going from Mariner Drive.

The shooting victim was taken to a hospital for treatment.

Harris denied taking part in the shooting and was booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison on Saturday. The Denham Springs man was charged with two counts of attempted first-degree murder, aggravated criminal damage to property and felon in possession of a firearm.

A bond has not been set.
