A 33-year-old Arlington man was arrested Friday after setting a fire on the balcony of an Arlington apartment building, according to the Arlington County Fire Department's Fire Prevention Office.
Shortly before 7 a.m., firefighters were called to the 5500 block of Columbia Pike for a reported structure fire.
First responders found a small fire on the balcony that was quickly put out, according to a release from the agency.
Fire marshals investigated the incident and reportedly recovered evidence that the fire was intentionally set. The man, a resident of the building, was taken into custody at the scene, the agency said.
Investigators said Sami Kasawat, 33, of Arlington, Virginia, has been charged with one count of arson and one count of endangering a person or property.
Kasawat is being held without bond at the Arlington County Detention Facility.
