Person identified after human remains found among trash in Birmingham drainage ditch

The decomposing remains were found Sunday morning in East Lake.

UPDATE: Feb. 2:The Jefferson County Coroner Medical Examiner's Office (JCCMEO) identified the person as Jeramy Hallmon, 38, of Birmingham.The JCCMEO says the cause of death is pending additional analysis.---------------------------------------Birmingham police are investigating the discovery of human remains in a drainage ditch in the East Lake area.The Jefferson County Coroner's office reports that a citizen called the police Sunday shortly before noon after finding the decomposing/skeletonized remains.The ditch was on the shoulder of a road in the 8400 block of 7th Avenue South, which is a residential area. The remains were in a large pile of household rubbish and have been recovered. Tests will be run to determine identification and the cause of death.
