A woman died after being struck by a vehicle while walking on a street in Fontana in the early morning hours of Jan. 30, according to the Fontana Police Department.

The incident took place on Citrus Avenue near Harvey Drive at about 1:10 a.m.

The pedestrian was crossing the southbound lanes of Citrus from west to east when she was hit by a white Toyota Solara which was being driven by a 21-year-old Fontana resident. The driver was southbound in the No. 2 lane of Citrus Ave when she collided head-on into the pedestrian, said Fontana Public Information Officer Jason Delair.

It did not appear the driver was under the influence of any substance.

The pedestrian was pronounced deceased at the scene. The pedestrian was found to be crossing outside of a crosswalk and slightly north of Harvey, Delair said.

The pedestrian was identified as Carmen Palacios, a 34-year-old Fontana resident, according to the San Bernardino County Sheriff Coroner’s Division.
