Police locate possible armed suicidal person in Sturbridge

STURBRIDGE, Mass. (WWLP) – The Sturbridge Police Department along with the Massachusetts State Police have located a person who was possibly suicidal and armed.

The individual’s vehicle was found in an area off of Douty Road with substantial damaged. Residents were asked to remain out of the area of Douty Road, Stallion Hill Road, and Holland Road Monday morning. Schools were asked by police to secure their properties and not allow anyone in during their search.

State Police, Holland and Brimfield Police were called in to help set up a perimeter around the area. Once enough assistance was in the area, officers search the vehicle and found the person hiding in the back. After talking with the person, they safely came out of the vehicle and was taken to the hospital for minor injuries due to crashing the vehicle.

“I am very thankful that this individual only received minor injuries and I hope that they receive the care they need. Mental Health is a serious/dangerous issue that law enforcement officers have to deal with on a regular basis. I am extremely happy with the professionalism that I witnessed today by all department and I appreciate your assistance,” said Sturbridge Police Chief Dessert.
