Rochester, N.Y. — Police have identified the woman found dead after a fire early Friday on the city's west side.
Christine Cannon, 78, lived on the third floor of a nine-apartment home on Hancock Street.
Firefighters found her body after containing the fire from the outside. They had initially been told someone was on the third floor, but they were unable to reach her due to the heavy smoke, flames and damage to the home.
Police have been unable to identity any relatives or next of kin for Cannon. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Monroe County Medical Examiner’s Office at 753-5905.
An investigation into the fire is ongoing. Police had initially been called to the address on Hancock Street for a domestic dispute, followed shortly thereafter by the fire.
It's unclear whether the dispute is connected to the fire. Police said Cannon was not connected to the dispute, which happened elsewhere in the building.
Anybody with information is asked to call 911, the Rochester Police Department Major Crimes Unit at 428-7157 or Crime Stoppers at 423-9300. Tips can also be emailed to MajorCrimes@cityofrochester.gov.
