Central Texas school districts issue weather updates

CENTRAL TEXAS (FOX 44) – Some Central Texas school districts are issuing statements and updates regarding the winter weather.

Academy ISD:

The Academy Independent School District is closed Wednesday due to the weather.  

Belton ISD:

The Belton Independent School District remained closed on Wednesday, February 1. There will be no classes or extracurricular activities. The school calendar should not be impacted.

The district released an update on Wednesday saying that the start of school would be delayed by two hours on Thursday, February 2. School buses will run their regular morning routes two hours later than normal. School start times are:

Belton Early Childhood School — 9:40 a.m.

Elementary Schools — 9:40 a.m.

Middle Schools — 10:10 a.m.

Belton High School & Lake Belton High School — 10:50 a.m.

Belton New Tech @Waskow — 10:40 a.m.

DAEP — 10 a.m.

All extracurricular activities scheduled in the morning will be rescheduled. School dismissal will be at normal times.

Bryan ISD:

Bryan ISD sent out an update early Wednesday afternoon saying things will reopen and the district will resume its regular schedule on Thursday, February 2. This decision was made after reviewing road conditions and consulting with meteorologists about the weather.

Copperas Cove ISD:

The Copperas Cove Independent School District is closed Wednesday, February 1. All activities are cancelled on Tuesday evening and also for Wednesday evening.

The district sent out a release Wednesday afternoon sayting classes will resume on Thursday, February 2, on a three-hour delayed start. Campuses will begin classes at the following times:

Mae Stevens Early Learning Academy will begin at 10:30 AM.

Elementary schools will begin at 10:45 AM.

Junior high schools will begin at 11 AM.

CCHS and Crossroads High School will begin at 11:10 AM.

Parents drop off their students no earlier than 15 minutes prior to start time for their respective campus. No breakfast will be served on Thursday, as the start times are very close to lunch times. Dismissal will be at the regularly scheduled time for each campus.

Killeen ISD:

The Killeen Independent School District released an update Wednesday afternoon – saying that while weather conditions look to improve tomorrow, the roads will remain icy through the morning and it will not be safe for school buses or employees to travel. Campus and district buildings will remain closed on Thursday, February 2. 

The district says a final decision regarding a make-up date will be come later. All extracurricular activities scheduled for Thursday will be rescheduled. 

La Vega ISD:

The La Vega Independent School District remained closed on Wednesday.

Lorena ISD:

The Lorena Independent School District will be closed Wednesday, Feb. 1.

The district sent out an updated on Wednesday saying that classes will be delayed on Thursday, February 2. Classes will begin at 10 am, and buses will run approximately two hours later than normal.

Midway ISD:

The Midway Independent School District issued a statement saying that all schools and offices will continue to stay closed on Wednesday, February 1.

The district released an update early Thursday morning saying there will be school on Thursday, February 2, following a two-hour delayed start.

Morning activities will occur two hours later than the usual time – bus stops will be two hours behind normal schedule – elementary will start at 9:40 instead of 7:40, and secondary will start at 10:30 instead of 8:30. Staff will report to duty two hours later than normal shifts.

Temple ISD:

The Temple Independent School District plans to resume normal activities will resume on Thursday, February 2, unless otherwise communicated.

Waco ISD:

Waco Independent School District Superintendent Dr. Susan Kincannon announced plans to reopen on Thursday, February 2nd. Classes were canceled on Wednesday.

The district released another update on Wednesday saying that there would be a two-hour delayed start on Thursday, February 2. All campuses and offices will open two hours later than normal, and pick-up times for all bus routes will be delayed two hours.
