7News spoke with Prince George's County State's Attorney Aisha Braveboy on Friday, the day graphic police bodycam video of Tyre Nichols' arrest was released.
The video shows five Black officers punching and kicking the 29-year-old FedEx worker for three minutes. The Nichols family’s legal team has compared the assault to the infamous 1991 police beating of Los Angeles motorist Rodney King.
Nichols died on January 10 after three days in the hospital. The officers were quickly fired and last Thursday were charged with second-degree murder.
On Monday, a sixth Memphis Police Department officer, Preston Hemphill, was relieved of duty.
"It can happen almost anywhere in America and that's still the reality today, Braveboy told 7News.

Braveboy said the video reinforces the role she has as a Black woman who is one of Maryland's top prosecutors.
"We can not in our roles ever deny the people of our community the transparency, the truth, the honesty that they deserve," she said. "And this incident, while it didn't happen here, what I know is that it could happen here. It could happen almost anywhere in America and that's still the reality today. So we still have a lot of work to do."
