LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — A late January winter storm brought snow to some Las Vegas valley neighborhoods Monday morning.
A mix of snow and rain caused State Route 160 which connects Las Vegas to Pahrump to close for several hours at State Route 159, according to the Regional Transportation Commission. The road reopened but vehicles were required to have a 4-wheel drive with snow tires or chains.

The Red Rock Canyon Scenic Drive was also closed due to wet road conditions. The notice was posted on Red Rock Canyon’s Twitter page.
The 8 News Now drone caught the wintery scene at Red Rock Canyon with snow and clouds covering the whole area.
Also closed was the Spring Mountains Gateway. Chains or snow tires were required on all roads in the Spring Mountains.
Snow flurries started Monday morning in the southeast valley in neighborhoods near Black Mountain’s base and around College Drive and U.S. 95.
By noon, Paradise Hills reported 2 inches of snow and a half-inch near U.S. 95 and Horizon Ridge.

Madeline Sandoval told 8 News Now it was a special experience for her daughter Allisondra.
“We heard that it was snowing and this is her first time in the snow,” Sandoval said.
Some students even stepped out of the classroom to see the snow including Connor Rhea who said he headed to Mission Hills park with his friends to take full advantage of the snow.
“It’s really weird actually. It hasn’t snowed here in like two years and last time it snowed it was just like little sprinkles,” Rhea expressed.
A winter weather advisory remains in effect for the mountains. Lee Canyon reported 5 inches of snow overnight and received another 8 inches Monday.

Rain showers started falling around the Las Vegas valley overnight and continued into the morning. The air mass is cold enough to continue the possibility of a mix of snow and rain until noon.
Drivers are urged to use caution because roads are either wet or damp and there have been several crashes this morning.
