City of Austin activates cold weather shelters for rest of the week

Individuals in need of shelter are asked to report to One Texas Center, located at 505 Barton Springs Road, between 6 p.m. and 8 p.m. each day.

AUSTIN, Texas — The City of Austin's cold weather shelter activation will continue through Friday, Feb. 3, as winter weather conditions continue.

The City – along with Travis County, Capital Metro and other local service providers – activates the plan when temperatures are predicated to be near or below freezing.

Individuals in need of shelter are asked to report to One Texas Center, located at 505 Barton Springs Road, between 6 p.m. and 8 p.m. each day. From there, individuals seeking shelter will be taken by CapMetro buses to the cold weather shelter locations.

Shelters are available to anyone in need of a warm place to spend the night.

The following warming centers will be open from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. Wednesday:

  • Little Walnut Creek Branch Library (835 W. Rundberg Lane)
  • Terrazas Branch Library (1105 E. Cesar Chavez St.)
  • Austin Recreation Center (1301 Shoal Creek)
  • Turner Roberts Recreation Center (7201 Colony Loop Drive)
