President Joe Biden speaks about gas prices and oil companies profits, in the Roosevelt Room of the White House, on Oct. 31 in Washington, as Energy Secretary Jennifer Granholm listens.

In a matter of days, President Joe Biden will stand before Congress to deliver the annual State of the Union address. The name might lead you to believe that he will be reporting on the actual state of our union. But it will be nothing more than a carefully crafted misrepresentation of what real people are experiencing in our country — the state of the union as the Biden administration would have you see it. Because for them, perception matters more than reality.

Take, for example, the border crisis. I witnessed a modern-day Potemkin village when Biden finally
visited
the border in my home state of Texas. In preparation for his arrival, a small section of border town El Paso was scrubbed squeaky clean. Illegal immigrants were
shuffled
out of the area, garbage swept from the streets, and makeshift housing encampments removed to present a seemingly beautiful and entirely fictional immigration facade. As soon as he left, a flood of illegal immigrants overwhelmed the city once more.

THE STATE OF OUR UNION UNDER BIDEN: A WEAKER, LESS SECURE, MORE DIVIDED AMERICA

Biden will almost certainly ignore the consequences of his border crisis during his State of the Union address. Instead, he will likely reiterate his recent statements encouraging immigrants to “apply legally” from Mexico, a huge change from his 2019 presidential campaign and early presidency statements that opened the illegal immigration floodgates. He may tout his plan to accept 30,000 more immigrants every month.

But he won’t mention that December set a new
record high
for migration, with monthly encounters exceeding 250,000, or that January was the 10th month in a row exceeding 200,000. He’ll forget to mention that
dozens
of people on the terror watchlist have been arrested crossing into our country. We’ll never know how many more are likely part of the estimated 70,000 known “
gotaways
” every month. He’ll omit the overwhelmed infrastructure and increased local crime rates resulting directly from his America-last border policies because that isn’t part of the perception the administration wants to push.

He’d also like us to forget that thanks to his administration’s reckless spending, this year brought with it historically high inflation rates and soaring prices, crippling families. He’ll hype the recent 3.5% unemployment number without mentioning how many people are getting second and third jobs just to afford
food
and
gas
. Instead, he’ll highlight the “
easing
” of inflation, which is still devastatingly high.

We will certainly hear some vague and self-congratulatory statements about working to overcome the pandemic that the Biden administration continues to use to its own advantage. But he’ll slide right past any mention of the unprecedented
learning loss
, especially among the most vulnerable populations in our country, as a direct result of the unnecessary and unscientific lockdowns.

And while he’s not mentioning the devastating school closures that have affected people nationwide, he also won’t mention the issue of radical indoctrination occurring in schools. In Virginia, for example, students’ merit-based awards were intentionally
withheld
because they did not fit the radical equity agendas that are permeating our union’s public schools.

Despite the very real impact that it’s having on the current state of our union and millions of families, Biden won’t mention how parents are desperately fighting to keep their children from being hypersexualized by gender activists in education. Just this week, a Missouri middle school took students to a
drag show
. While a parental permission slip was required, parents were not made aware that a drag show would be part of the school trip.

None of these issues fit within the carefully constructed facade the Biden administration is presenting to the nation. But the public knows better. We’re not just awake — we are actively engaged in the fight for our families, freedoms, and the future of our nation. And we will reclaim and protect the union that is being carefully and intentionally destroyed.
