NBA Rumors: Suns Eye Raptors' OG Anunoby amid Trade Interest from Knicks, More Teams

Rob Goldberg

The Phoenix Suns have joined the pursuit of Toronto Raptors forward OG Anunoby ahead of the Feb. 9 trade deadline, per Shams Charania of The Athletic.

The New York Knicks are also interested and are willing to offer multiple fist-round picks for the 25-year-old, per Charania. Ian Begley of SNY previously reported the Knicks had "checked in" on Anunoby's availability in early December and were willing to pay a steep price for him.

There is significant interest around the league in Anunoby. ESPN's Brian Windhorst recently reported that the Portland Trail Blazers "would love" to add him.

Anunoby is currently averaging 16.9 points, 5.5 rebounds and an NBA-best 2.1 steals per game.

The sixth-year player has been efficient as a scorer, including his career-high 82.1 free-throw percentage, although his defensive ability is what teams especially covet. At 6'7", he can defend multiple positions, and he ranked sixth in the NBA in defensive win shares in 2019-20.

Phoenix could especially use Anunoby's versatility, as the squad has struggled with injuries and depth throughout this season.

Cameron Johnson recently returned from his knee injury, but Devin Booker is still sidelined with a groin injury. Phoenix has also been unable to replace Jae Crowder, who has been away from the team seeking a trade all season.

The Suns entered Monday ninth in the Western Conference with a 26-25 record. They led the NBA with a 64-18 mark last season.

Anunoby, who can't become a free agent until at least 2024, could be a key addition to get the Suns back toward title contention.

The question is whether Phoenix will be willing to reach the Raptors' asking price amid the potential bidding war. ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski previously reported it could cost three first-round picks to land the forward.
