CPD warn residents after numerous car thefts on West Side

CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - Chicago police issued an alert to residents, noting that over a dozen cars had been stolen in the past three weeks from the West Side.

In a three week period, beginning on January 10 and mostly recently this past Friday, January 27, six different cars were stolen from the West Side, police said. The string of thefts occurred in the area surrounding Madison, Flournoy, Cicero and Laramie.

Here are the incident dates and locations: 
4800 block of West Gladys on January 10, 2023 at 6:00 PM.

5000 block of West Van Buren on January 13, 2023 at 10:00 PM.

5000 block of West Monroe between January 21, 2023 at 10:00 PM and January 22, 2023 at 8:30 AM.

200 block of South Lavergne on January 23, 2023 at 5:00 PM.

5000 block of West Van Buren on January 25, 2023 between 11:20 AM and 11:23 AM.

4800 block of West Van Buren between January 27, 2023 at 7:00 PM and January 28, 2023 at 7:00 AM.

Chicago police also said 12 cars were stolen during that same period in Austin. In this string, several of the stolen cars happened to be Kia and Hyundai make.

300 block of North Austin on January 10, 2023 between 7:15 AM and 5:00 PM.

0-100 block of North Central on January 12, 2023 between 8:00 PM and 11:00 PM.

300 block of North Waller on January 14, 2023 at 9:00 AM.

5900 block of West Corcoran on January 16, 2023 between 6:10 AM and 5:00 PM.

 5500 block of West Washington between January 17, 2023 at 10:00 PM and
January 18, 2023 at 12:00 PM.

5800 block of West Washington between January 20, 2023 at 10:00 PM and
January 21, 2023 at 4:45 AM.

5700 block of West Washington on January 21, 2023 at 10:15 PM.

5900 block of West Madison on January 22, 2023 between 3:00 AM and 8:30 AM.

200 block of North Mayfield on January 22, 2023 at 2:30 PM.

5900 block of West West End on January 24, 2023 at 3:45 PM.

Police are reminding residents to never leave a running car unoccupied and, if you do see a suspect stealing your car, do not confront them. Call 9-1-1 instead.
