BMC has launched its new Team BMC World Cup XC team for 2023.

The new factory team from BMC features Steffi Häberlin, Jordan Sarrou, Titouan Carod, Juri Zanotti and Janis Baumann in its ranks. The updated 2023 BMC team brings on new sponsors for the upcoming season with Öhlins suspension and Pirelli tires.

bigquotesSuspension setup and functionality play a major role in winning modern cross-country races. We are delighted to be partnering with Öhlins - masters in tuning and suspension design. Market leading high-end components from SRAM and innovative race proven tires from Pirelli further set the team up for victory, with ASSOS of Switzerland and ABUS supplying top quality apparel and helmets, ensuring all the performance requirements of the world's best riders are met with style. Amaël Moinard, Team BMC manager

bigquotesAt BMC we are proud to launch this new project with premium performance partners joining us on our quest to create speed, at the highest level of the sport. This important next step in the BMC racing history motivates us to give only our absolute best, from product development to now team ownership, our ambition remains resolute - provide the best possible setup to world class athletes. bigquotesWe are really looking forward to collaborating with BMC and this exciting new project. Öhlins has a long and successful background in motorsport and mountain bike racing but this is the first time we have ventured into cross country racing. We believe that together with BMC and their top athletes we can supply and develop next-generation, race-winning products. Torkel Sintorn, MTB Racing and Concept Director of Öhlins

bigquotesWe couldn’t miss the opportunity to join such an ambitious project, to engage our best athletes and partners, and involve them in our product development. The established methodology we call “continuous development” comes from decades of racing culture and testing protocols. To now apply this to the high level of partners BMC has brought together is going to be exciting. It opens up new perspectives for our technicians and for our new Italian factory in Bollate, which is targeting the MTB World Cup for the next generation of Scorpion MTB tires. Samuele Bressan Global Marketing Manager of the Cyling Division of Pirelli

The fresh BMC team is set to get between the tape for the first time at what is becoming a mini World Cup in Banyoles, Spain before the actual World Cup begins at Nove Mesto in May.

can it run a dual crown?

yes, but travel is limited to 100mm

I like a four stroke. Anyway, on topic it's nice to see a team photo where they look happy to be there!

Except the guy in the middle. He looks like the hard-up street tough that joins the team, but the real win at the end is the friends he'll make along the way.

So Ohlins is going to introduce a brand new XC fork to market, I'm going to go on a limb here and think it is based on their 34mm stanchions chassis The RXF34 is built for "down country" - not a fan of that name - They probably lightened up the new fork a bit and called it a good base for what's to come. the fourstroke chassis is a proven race winner, the groupset is a very safe bet and the Duke wheels are as good as it gets and with Sarrou and Carod they should know pretty quick how much will be required to take it to podiums. The only unknown are the tires and the dampers.

I also noticed that the Team is sponsored by BOSS (as in Hugo Boss looking at the font) which mean that team should be pretty stylish away from their bike, It also means that some teams are able to go get sponsors away from the industry again which is a good thing for the sport. From recent memory the only team that managed it lately has been the Dorval Commencal team whose title sponsor (Dorval AM) is not connected to the industry (they are asset management firm so they may own a bit of Commencal though) .

 You’re not “down” with downcountry?

Interesting to see an xc bike without a remote lockout! I wonder if they will keep it that way or if öhlins will come out with new suspension with remote lockouts

the body language of guy on the right is interesting
  • 3 0
Yeah, but what about the body language of the guy on the left?
  • 3 0
@mi-bike: Dude on the right clearly is holding in a poo. Where as dude on the left is trying to hide his "racing" excitement in the shadows.

@werts: This is the analysis we came here for.

@werts: I’m holding in a poo whilst writing this . . . Nice to see the pros are just like us!

So Absalon out of the picture?
  • 4 0
I think he started his own team or something.

 @plustiresaintdead:

The Absolute Absalon team was the BMC team until last year when things completely unravaled and Julien Absalon decided to step away. BMC decided to bring it entirely in house after what was rumored to be a bit of a shitshow behind the scene (PFP did literally not even use the BMC pits at WC last year). They lost or let go P. Colombo, M. Azzaro, PFP and only retained T.Carod who had a crazy strong end of season last year.

@NedaSay: shit show how? We must know the drama. Bad mechanics? Pfp cheated on absalon? Is there going to be a new reality tv series on it?

 @caiocrz: she's beautyfull
  • 1 0
@Shredocalypse69: is it confirmed that pfp cheated on him?

We will have to BMC what this team can do. I would like to BMC more about that fork too.
  • 2 0
I BMC what you did there. (Sort of.)
  • 4 0
 No lockout remote?
  • 3 0
 Capra zoppa?

 Pirelli tires, again
  • 1 1
Hmm. Now that it's reported that China has a 46% stake in Pirelli...and Maxxis is a brand of CST, a Taiwanese company...the push for squeezing Maxxis out of market share makes sense...

The most famous BMC rider isn't on the factory team!

All these XC team poses look so awkward like they’re trying to hard.

Is that a drone shot or a tall guy with a camera?
  • 1 1
Assos on their way to make the least flattering bibs known to man. Or maybe its just this weird drone camera shot.

If only there was a seat post that could drop the seat height at the press of a button... it could be useful on that bike
  • 1 0
The bike in the picture does have a dropper seat post. The BMC Autodrop is a fully integrated, automatic dropper post. It is mechanically operated and an air tank housed in the downtube enables it to drop the seat automatically.

*COUGH* interesting shadows. The Fourstroke is so light it doesn't even have one!
